With looming uncertainty about SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown, Russell County Schools’ Anchor of Hope Food Pantry aims to help Russell County students and their families.
The pantry is a product of a partnership between Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland and Russell County Schools, and is available to families with a student in the school system in the home.
With SNAP benefits not going out for November, officials are expecting more families locally to need assistance.
The pantry accepts donations. Sherry Coffey, Family Resource and Youth Services Coordinator for Russell County High School, told WJRS News how those who are able to donate financially can do so.
The pantry is also able to accept donation of food items. Coffey gave WJRS News some items that would be beneficial.
Families with a student in the school system who need assistance can contact their child’s school and ask for the family resource and youth service center coordinator.
