Gilbert Ray Clayton, age 73, of Jamestown, Kentucky was born on January 27th, 1952. He departed this life on Sunday, August 17th, 2025. He received his early education in a one room schoolhouse which is now Greens Chapel Church dining hall. Afterwards he would go on to technical school. In 1988 he began working as a maintenance mechanic at Fruit of the Loom in Jamestown, Ky from where he retired in January 2014.
After retirement, Gilbert began mowing several lawns in the Jamestown community. He took much pride in groundskeeping for Greens Chapel Baptist Church and the Greens Chapel cemetery. Gilbert accepted Christ into his heart and became a dedicated member of his spiritual home, Greens Chapel Baptist Church.
Gilbert had a great love of sports. He was often torn between rooting for UK and UofL. Gilbert had an even greater love of vehicles, owning several cars and trucks in his lifetime. His favorites were his black Chevy Impalas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Zilpha Clayton (Louisville, Ky); sons Deidrick and Tyrone Clayton (Louisville, Ky); and brothers, Ernest (Louisville, Ky) and Ronald Clayton (Nicholasville, Ky).
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tina Clayton (Jamestown, Ky); daughters Shana Williams (Louisville, Ky) , Connisha Clayton (Louisville, Ky), and Shaleesa Clayton (Frankfort, Ky); son Lamario Williams (Louisville, Ky); sisters Pauline Perkins (Louisville, KY), Velva Clayton (Louisville, KY), and Rita Clayton (Louisville, Ky) in addition to a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday August 23, 2025, 11:00 AM CT at the Greens Chapel Church in Jamestown, KY.
