Search and Rescue commander urges use of life jackets on the water

Russell County Search and Rescue Commander Chris Money continues to stress the importance of wearing a life jacket while on the water.

Whether a person is swimming, boating, or any other activity on the water, Money said wearing a life jacket is extremely important.

Individuals involved in both water rescues that occurred on the Cumberland River within the past week were wearing life jackets, and Money said it seems like more people are wearing life jackets on the water.

Along with wearing a life jacket, Money also told WJRS News an important safety precaution people can take when being on the water is ensuring their cell phone is charged to be able to call emergency responders and for first responders to be able to locate them.
