Paving operations on Crocus Road near the Bryan Community got underway this week.
Two miles of the road are being paved as part of a project funded partially by the state through a grant from Kentucky Division of Waste Management.
One mile of the roadway is being paved with rubber-modified asphalt, which is made from recycled tires. Jonathan Durbin, with the Recycling and Local Assistance Branch of the Division of Waste Management, spoke to WJRS News about the project.
A key part of the project is a five-year study on the pavement. Durbin said the state wants to compare how the rubber-modified asphalt holds up compared to traditional asphalt, particularly when it comes to agriculture equipment and other heavy equipment.
Russell County is one of only a handful of counties statewide to receive a grant for these rubber-modified asphalt projects.
