Local unemployment increased half-a-percent last month, as Russell County was one of only four counties statewide to see an increase in unemployment in June compared to the year prior.
The Kentucky Center for Statistics recorded an unemployment rate of 5.8 percent in Russell County last month, compared to 5.3 percent in June 2024.
Clinton County, which recorded an unemployment rate of 6.3 percent, also saw an increase from last year, when unemployment was at 6 percent.
Grayson County and Martin County were the other two counties in Kentucky that recorded unemployment increases.
Across the Lake Cumberland Area, McCreary County recorded the highest unemployment rate at 6.6 percent and Cumberland County was the lowest at 4.2 percent.
Wayne County came in at 5.9 percent, Casey County at 5.6 percent, Adair County at 5.3 percent, and Pulaski County at 5.2 percent.
