Senate approves bill to lower state income tax

The Kentucky Senate approved a bill yesterday that will lower the state income tax from 4 percent to 3.5 percent.

House Bill 1 passed through the Senate yesterday by a 34-3 vote.

If signed by Governor Andy Beshear, the new tax rate will go into effect January 1, 2026.

Representative Josh Branscum and Senator Rick Girdler both voted in favor of the bill in their respective chambers.
