Beshear signs tax cut bill into effect

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed House Bill 1 yesterday, which cuts the state income tax from 4 percent to 3.5 percent.

The bill passed easily through both chambers of the legislature. Russell County’s legislators, Rep. Josh Branscum and Sen. Rick Girdler, both voted in favor of the bill.

The new tax rate goes into effect January 1, 2026.
