Last night was the season opener for the Russell County Laker and Lady Laker Basketball teams, with both teams hitting the road to start the 24-25 season.
The Lady Lakers went on the road to Bowling Green, falling 51-37 to the Lady Purples. The Lady Lakers fell down early, trailing by 12 at the end of the first quarter, but cut the lead to 4 going into halftime against the defending region champions.
The Lady Lakers took a 3-point lead into the 4th quarter, but were outscored 24-7 in the final frame.
The Lakers went on the road to play 5th Region opponent Hart County, with the Lakers coming away with a 90-63 win over the Raiders to start the season.
The Lakers are on the road again tomorrow, taking on the defending region champion Warren Central Dragons. That game gets underway at 7:15 tomorrow night.
The Lady Lakers will play in their home opener on Friday, hosting Warren East. That game will get underway at 7:30 Friday night.
