Nearly a year has passed since the City of Jamestown introduced new water and sewer rates.
When the city council approved the new rates, which had not increased in several years, city officials said it was necessary to combat the rising costs of providing water and sewer services.
WJRS News reached out to Jamestown City Hall to learn more about how the city has utilized the extra revenue from the increase.
Looking at this past October’s revenue compared to the previous October, the city brought in roughly $35,000 more this October..
City officials tell WJRS News the city saw its expenses for chemicals nearly double in recent years, from about $77,000 in 2021-2022 to more than $134,000 in 2023-2024.
The city has also made equipment upgrades like purchasing a vacuum trailer for the water and sewer department, upgraded telemetry for the water plant, a sewer truck, and upgraded pumps. Those purchases add up to approximately $159,000.
City officials tell WJRS News they continue to use funds to look toward the future to be able to fix and maintain plants, pumps and lines in the water and sewer system.
