Around two months ago, we reported on WJRS News about controversy brewing in neighboring Clinton County about the county’s fiscal court opting not to renew extra funding that had been provided for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
In a recent fiscal court meeting, Clinton County Sheriff Ricky Marcum made another request for those additional funds to the fiscal court, but was once again denied.
Last year, the fiscal court granted the sheriff’s office an extra $106,000, which was paid quarterly, to hire extra deputies and allow the department to provide 24/7 service.
After the fiscal court voted not to renew those funds back in July, the sheriff’s office reportedly laid off two deputies. At the most recent meeting, magistrates questioned Marcum about the funds after Marcum brought the idea back up, but ultimately, no further discussion or action was taken by the court.
