A new report from the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy reports six overdose deaths that occurred in Russell County last year.
That’s a decrease locally, as 8 overdose deaths were reported in Russell County in 2022.
Looking at neighboring counties, 21 overdose deaths were reported in Pulaski County in 2023, 10 in Wayne County, and less than 5 in Adair, Casey, and Clinton counties. According to the report, no overdose deaths were reported in Cumberland County in 2023.
The decline in Russell County follows a trend statewide, as Kentucky saw a near 10 percent decrease in overdose deaths in 2023 compared to 2022.
