Russell Springs holds ceremony to name police station after former chief

A special ceremony was held on Friday to recognize former Russell Springs Police Chief Joe Michael Irvin.

The city dedicated its police station to Irvin, which will now be known as the Joe Michael Irvin Police Station.

A ceremony for Irvin,  with many family and friends in attendance, was held on Friday.

WJRS News caught up with Irvin following the ceremony to talk about what it meant to him.

Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas said naming the building after Irvin is a tribute to the legacy Irvin left during his time as head of the city’s police force.

Irvin served as the city’s police chief for 20 years.
