Several elected officials will be running unopposed this fall, as yesterday saw the end of the candidate filing period.
The six incumbents on the Jamestown City Council will run unopposed, and the three incumbent school board candidates will not face any opposition either.
Jamestown City Council members Mitchell Marcum, Terry Robertson, William Murray, Tony Wright, Dwight Richards, and Barry Coffey all filed for another term, and incumbent school board members Brenda Higginbotham, Joy Wilson, and Gerald Murray also filed for another term.
There will be a competitive race for the Russell Springs City Council. Incumbents Sherry Daniel, David Blakey, Ricky Barnes, Cody Wilson, and Timmy Hudson are joined by three challengers: Lance Huckaby, Roger Collins, and Gary Frost. The top six from that group of eight will earn a seat on the council.
Lisa Mann, who is currently on the council, opted not to seek another term.
Four candidates also filed for seats on the Soil and Water Conservation Board. Those candidates were Ronnie McFall, Shane Roy, Victor Cooper and Mark Antle.
The general election is scheduled to take place five months from today on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
