Unemployment increases in Russell County, Lake Cumberland area

Data released earlier this month showed an increase in unemployment in Russell County and the Lake Cumberland area as a whole.

Russell County’s unemployment rate for the month of March came in at 6.4 percent, a notable increase from 5.7 percent in March 2023.

Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase in unemployment. The 10-county Lake Cumberland area saw a near one percent increase in unemployment from March 2023, and each of the 10 counties reported an increase.

The largest increases were 1.3 percent in McCreary County and 1.2 percent in Adair and Clinton.

In the Lake Cumberland area, McCreary County had the highest unemployment rate at 7.4 percent, followed by 6.6 percent in Clinton and Wayne counties.

Adair came in at 6.2 and Pulaski at 5.8 percent.

Cumberland County had the lowest in the area at 4.3 percent and Casey came in at just under 5 percent.
