Russell Springs man indicted for reportedly threatening to detonate bomb at Adair County restaurant

A Russell Springs man was indicted for reportedly threatening to detonate a bomb at an Adair County restaurant.

The incident occurred at Betty’s OK Country Cooking on Highway 55 in Adair County on March 17.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Paul A. Mitchem of Russell Springs was indicted on a charge of terroristic threatening along with being a persistent felony offender.

According to law enforcement in Adair County, Mitchem claimed he placed a weapon of mass destruction inside the restaurant. Mitchem reportedly called the restaurant and told an employee there everyone had two minutes to leave the building before it exploded.

The threat caused the restaurant to close early, as a bomb squad from Kentucky State Police along with officers from local law enforcement secured the building.
