The Russell Springs City Council passed three zoning changes at yesterday’s special-called meeting, with Mayor Eddie Thomas casting the deciding vote in two of the three.
The council approved a zoning change for a property at 425 Jamestown Street where Cody Coffey and Drew Richards are planning to build apartments.
The zoning change passed with a vote of 4-3, with council members David Blakey, Ricky Barnes, and Timmy Hudson voting in favor, and Sherry Daniel, Cody Wilson, and Lisa Mann voting against. Mayor Eddie Thomas cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the zoning change.
Daniel said concerns have been presented to her about the apartments being sold in the future to SPARC or becoming Section 8 housing.
The other split vote came on a zoning change for a property located at 2043 West Highway 80, where Coffey is reportedly planning to build multi-unit apartments.
That vote also passed 4-3, with the mayor joining council members Blakey, Barnes, and Hudson, while council members Daniel, Wilson, and Mann voted against.
The other zoning change, for a property located at 30 Coffey Avenue, was approved unanimously.
