Casey County considering ordinance to prohibit medical cannabis operation in county

Medical cannabis, also known as medical marijuana, was legalized in Kentucky last year after receiving approval by the state legislature and being signed by the governor.

The state can begin issuing business licenses for medical marijuana later this year, but officials in neighboring Casey County are considering an ordinance that would prohibit medical cannabis operations within the county.

According to a report in the Casey County News, the Casey County Fiscal Court approved such an ordinance at a meeting earlier this month. According to that report, counties have the option to pass an ordinance prohibiting the sale, cultivation, or dispensing of medical cannabis within the county.

A second reading will likely be held next month.
