Lady Lakers win, Lakers struggle in final district doubleheader of regular season

Last night was the final district doubleheader of the regular season as Russell County went on the road to Clinton County.

In the first game, the Lady Lakers fell behind early but came back to take a 19-17 lead into halftime. The Lady Lakers came out strong in the second half, and built an 8-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Lakers were able to hold on in the 4th and come away with a 40-35 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The win moves the Lady Lakers to 16-8 on the season with a 5-3 mark to finish district play.

In the nightcap, the Lakers struggled out of the gate, scoring just five points in the opening quarter as the Bulldogs took a 38-23 lead into halftime.

The struggles continued through the night for the Lakers, as the Bulldogs put forth one of their best offensive performances of the season with the Bulldogs coming out on top 83-48.

The loss pushes the Lakers back to .500 on the season at 12-12. The Lakers finish the regular season with a 6-2 mark in district play, the same as Clinton County.

The Lakers and Lady Lakers will be back in action at home this Friday when they host Adair County.
