Fiscal court gives approval to explore changes to RCIDA

The Russell County Fiscal Court gave approval for Judge Executive Randy Marcum to explore the idea of modernizing the Russell County Industrial Development Authority at yesterday’s meeting.

This is the second step of such a process, with the Russell Springs City Council voting to give Mayor Eddie Thomas permission to do the same thing at last week’s city council meeting.

Both Adair and Pulaski counties, in recent years, have made the switch to economic development as opposed to only industrial, according to Russell Springs Economic Development Director, Jeramy Coffey.

Marcum spoke to WJRS News on why he feels this move is needed for Russell County and why he feels there is a bigger need for economic development.

Thomas also spoke to WJRS News about why he thinks a shake-up is needed.

A resolution like the ones brought before the fiscal court and Russell Springs City Council is expected to be brought before the Jamestown City Council later this week. A resolution would need to be approved by the Jamestown Council for a formal exploration could begin by the mayors and judge executive.
