County votes to provide funding for Duo Broadband Jabez project

The Russell County Fiscal Court voted last week to provide funds for the Duo Broadband project in Jabez.

Duo Broadband is currently in the midst of a large-scale project in Jabez totaling more than $6 million. The project aims to bring fiber to more than 500 underserved households and businesses in the Jabez area.

Darryl Hammond and attorney H.K. Cooper were in attendance at the meeting and said while the project is about 95 percent complete, the funds from the county are much-needed.

Discussions about the Jabez project began in 2021 with the county voting to use $250,000 in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to assist Duo Broadband with the project.

The fiscal court had recently voted to rescind that resolution a couple months ago, but voted last week to resolve providing the funds to Duo Broadband.
