Russell, surrounding counties saved thousands of lives through blood donation last year

Yesterday, we brought you an update on some statistics from mobile blood drives in Russell County last year.

Today, we take a look at other neighboring counties as well.

In total, 104 mobile blood drives were held in Russell, Adair, Casey, Cumberland, and Wayne counties last year.

In that five-county area, there were nearly 2,600 registered donors that donated just shy of 2,300 units of blood last year.

According to the Kentucky Blood Center, 499 people donated at 25 blood drives in Adair County, 587 donated at 25 drives in Casey County, 286 donated at 10 drives in Cumberland County, and 563 donated at 20 drives in Wayne County.

Last year, 661 people donated at 22 drives in Russell County.

According to the Kentucky Blood Center, those 2,268 units donated at Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Russell and Wayne counties could have impacted up to 6,804 local lives.

Currently, the blood center does not do drives in Clinton County and Pulaski County was not included in the report because it was for mobile drives only and KBC has a center in Somerset.
