Russell County sees sharp rise in unemployment, among highest in state

Russell County saw a sharp rise in unemployment numbers during the month of November, according to data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

Russell County saw its unemployment rate in the month of November rise more than two percent from November 2022, coming in at 6.8 percent.

That was the highest unemployment rate in the 10-county Lake Cumberland area, and the 7th-highest in the state according to the report.

In November 2022, Russell County’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent.

Each of the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland area saw a rise in unemployment during the month of November, but most of those increases were less than 1 percent.

Looking at neighboring county unemployment rates, Cumberland County came in at 3 percent, Casey County at 4 percent, Pulaski County at 4.6 percent, Clinton County at 4.8 percent, Wayne County at 5 percent, and Adair County at 5.1 percent.
