Last night’s game between the Russell County Lady Lakers and the Wayne County Lady Cardinals went into double overtime, with the Lady Lakers coming out on top 52-47.
After finishing the first quarter tied 12-12, the Lady Lakers would take a one-point lead into halftime and led 29-27 going into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Lakers and Lady Cardinals were tied at 37 at the end of regulation.
Wayne County seemed to take the advantage late in the first overtime, leading by 4 and going to the line for a pair of free throws, but some critical misses at the free throw line and a turnover by the Lady Cardinals opened the door as Rachel Bolin hit a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the game at 45-45.
The Lady Lakers were able to gain the edge in the second overtime and pick up the victory.
After starting the season 1-4, the Lady Lakers have won nine of their last 11 games and hold a 10-6 overall record.
In the JV game, the Lady Lakers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, picking up an easy 45-10 victory over the Lady Cardinals.
The Lady Lakers are back in action next Tuesday as they host Casey County.
