Charles Lee “Chuck” Smith, age 57, Formerly of Russell Springs

Charles Lee “Chuck” Smith, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, formerly of Russell Springs, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at his residence.  He was 57 years of age.

Chuck was born July 1, 1966, in Gibson City, Illinois, son of the late Ray Smith and Sandra Bridgwater Smith Akin.  He was a United States Army veteran, serving his country for many years domestically and on foreign soil.  While stationed in Iraq and in Kuwait, Chuck started driving semi-trucks for military operations.  After his discharge from the military, he drove trucks for different employers that took him across the country.  Chuck was a skilled machinery mechanic and worked as a security officer for some time.

Chuck loved to travel and never knew a stranger.  He enjoyed fishing and playing music.  He was a big Willie Nelson fan and was known to joke and carry on.  To his friends at work in Indiana, he was “Chucky from Kentucky”.

He is survived by his brothers, Joe (and Beverly) Smith, of Russell Springs, and Ray Neal (and Kathy) Smith, of Ohio; his sisters, Amy (and Robert) Kerr, of Columbia, and Sharon (and Joe) Uland, of Virginia; his step-brother, Tim (and Lori) Akin, of Columbia; his step-sister, Kimberly (and Troy) Mitchum, of Glens Fork; and his nieces and nephews.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents.

No public services will be held.
