A Russell County Gatton Academy senior is one of 17 students from the academy at Western Kentucky University to be named semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Jess Christian Rara is a semifinalist for the honor.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.
A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout their high school career, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn ACT and SAT scores that confirm the Semifinalist’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
