Proposed bill would make diapers tax-exempt

A bill being proposed in the Kentucky Legislature would make diapers tax-exempt in the state of Kentucky.

State Senator Cassie Chambers-Armstrong of Louisville is proposing a bill that would make both children and adult diapers exempt from the state’s sales and use tax.

Currently, 18 other states and Washington D.C. have made diapers sales tax-exempt. That includes neighboring states Indiana and Virginia.

Currently, diapers are taxed at the same 6 percent rate as other products in the state.

During the interim, the Kentucky General Assembly cannot take any action on legislation. The 2024 legislative session begins Jan. 2.
