Laker Soccer falls to Garrard County, JV team picks up win

The Russell County High School boys soccer teams faced off against Garrard County last night, falling 4-2.

Below is a recap of the game, courtesy of Laker Soccer Assistant Coach Ramie Hutchison.

The Lakers went down 0-1 in the first minutes of the game, but quickly fought back, scoring off of a corner kick from Will Pratt to Xavier Betts-Jimenez.

In the second half, Garrard County was awarded a penalty kick for handling in the box and scored.

Again, the Lakers responded quickly with Taven Foley-Roy drawing a penalty kick on the other side of the field after the Garrard County Keeper tripped Foley-Roy in the box.

Xavier Betts-Jimenez took the penalty successfully, making the score 2-2.

Unfortunately the Lakers gave up a goal on a through ball a few minutes later and with 3 minutes left in the match the Lions scored one last time, making the final score 2-4 in favor of Garrard County.

The Lakers fought hard and Xavion Russell played well at Keeper with 9 saves.

The Lakers will take the field again, Thursday at 5:30 PM Central at home against Warren East. Go Lakers!!!

In the JV match, the Lakers came out victorious, 2-1. Both Laker goals came early in the first half. The first goal came from the left side of the field, with Yahir Reyes playing a through ball to Luis Lopez who put the ball past Garrard’s Keeper with ease.

A few minutes later, Sebastian Betts-Jimenez received the ball in the center of the field and played a perfect pass to Jose Lopez who placed the ball in corner of the net.

Garrard answered with one goal late in the 2nd half, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lakers.
