Corbin man arrested following Saturday night pursuit

A Corbin man was arrested Saturday night following a pursuit through Jamestown and Hale’s Highway.

According to reports, 48-year-old William Howerton was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, fleeing or evading police first degree, wanton endangerment of a police officer, criminal mischief first degree, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and other charges.

Jamestown Police reportedly attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Howerton’s vehicle, but Howerton fled, leading police on a chase going around the Jamestown Square and then onto Hale’s Highway and Blair Schoolhouse Road.

Jamestown Police officers and Russell County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in the pursuit and officers were finally able to apprehend Howerton just after 8 p.m. Saturday.

He was lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. Jamestown Police Officer Heath Tarter was the arresting officer.
