An Adair County man was arrested after a reported violent altercation at the Adair County sheriff’s office.
According to the Adair Community Voice, 49-year-old Chris Wheeler was arrested on three counts of assault third degree, attempting to disarm a police officer, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, public intoxication, and other charges.
According to the newspaper, Wheeler showed up at the office to speak with a deputy about an incident in which he was arrested last week. After a conversation, Wheeler was reportedly asked to leave but refused, and the deputy attempted to place him under arrest, but Wheeler attacked the deputy.
Other officers in the courthouse and nearby, including at the jail, rushed over and were able to eventually place Wheeler under arrest.
The deputy received minor injuries, but did not seek medical attention.
