County highway death totals released for 2022

We now have county data from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that shows highway deaths in Kentucky.

As reported earlier this week, there were 44 fatalities in the Lake Cumberland District in 2022. Two of those deaths occurred here in Russell County while four happened in neighboring Adair County.

In 2021, there were three highway deaths in Russell County and from 2016 through 2020 there were 19 highway deaths locally.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say they continue to pursue infrastructure projects to prevent deaths and serious injuries on highways. The cabinet’s 2023-24 budget includes additional funding investments for safety improvements.

State officials say anticipated dedicated funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and discretionary grant application opportunities will should allow more dollars to invest in communities statewide to implement innovative safety solutions in the coming years.
