School attendance numbers continue to improve as homes get power back

As power continues to come back on around the county, school attendance numbers improved as well on Tuesday to 92.34 percent, according to Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford, who said he was pleased with that figure.

Attendance was lowest Tuesday at Russell County High School at about 88.8 percent, largely due to the fact it was ACT day for juniors at the school and all students knew the schedule was different for the day.

Salem Elementary had the highest attendance Tuesday at 94.28 percent, followed by Russell Springs Elementary at 93.9 percent, Russell County Middle School at 93.36 percent and Jamestown Elementary at 93.3 percent.

Several school districts around the state remain out of the classroom due to widespread power outages.
