School attendance around 90 percent on Monday

School attendance in Russell County yesterday was around 90 percent, according to Superintendent Michael Ford.

Attendance was lowest at Russell County High School at about 88.7 percent, and highest at Russell Springs Elementary which was at nearly 92 percent.

School attendance numbers were lower than normal due to the lingering effects of last Friday’s high-wind weather event, which knocked out power at more than 5,000 homes and businesses in the county while also knocking over trees that blocked roadways and damaged homes and other property.

Ford said that with everything going on in the county from the storm, he was pleased with school attendance yesterday.
