Russell County sees increase in unemployment

New data shows Russell County saw an increase in unemployment last month from the year prior.

The Kentucky Center for Statistics recorded a 6 percent unemployment rate in February, a one-percent increase from the same time period last year.

Russell County’s unemployment rate was the third-highest in the Lake Cumberland area, only behind McCreary County at 6.4 percent and Wayne County at 6.3 percent.

Taylor County had the lowest unemployment rate in the Lake Cumberland area at 4 percent, followed by Cumberland County at 4.1 percent, Green at 4.4, and Casey County at 4.7 percent.

Pulaski County’s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, Adair was 5.6, and Clinton was 5.9 percent.

Unemployment rates rose in 105 counties between February 2022 and February 2023. Each county in the Lake Cumberland area saw an increase in unemployment.
