The Russell County Middle School Lady Laker Softball team won in dramatic fashion in its home opener Tuesday night, defeating Adair County 12-11 on a walk-off single by Olivia Robertson.
The Lady Lakers went into the bottom of the 6th trailing 11-9, but a double by Carigann Carpenter narrowed the lead to 1, and Robertson’s hit to center field scored Carpenter and Miley Rankins to give the Lady Lakers the win.
Carpenter and Camdin Cooper led Russell County offensively with 3 hits and 2 RBI each.
The Lady Lakers are now 2-0 on the season.
In the B game, the Lady Lakers also came out on top, this time by a score of 10-8.
