Hollis DeHart, former RS mayor, passes away

A longtime educator and former elected official has died.

Hollis DeHart, who served three three terms as Russell Springs mayor in the late 2000s and early 2010s and before that served on the city council, died Friday following an illness.

DeHart, 84, was also a well-known educator, serving as a teacher and principal at Russell County High School, assistant superintendent of Russell County Schools and also served as the school district’s transportation director.

Back in 2019, the city of Russell Springs renamed the community center on Main Street in DeHart’s honor.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday.
