Big week for trout stockings in Lake Cumberland Tailwater

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery staff with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel stocked Rainbow and Brown trout in the Cumberland River in both Russell and Cumberland counties on Thursday.

A total of 7,000 trout were stocked below Wolf Creek Dam in the Cumberland Tailwater, 2,200 trout were stocked at Helm’s Landing and another 2,200 were stocked at Winfrey’s Ferry.

In neighboring Cumberland County, a total of 5,000 trout were stocked between Bakerton, Burkesville, Highway 61 and Cloyd’s Landing.

Earlier this week, and additional 5,000 15-inch Rainbow trout were released into the river, according to hatchery officials.

Hatchery Creek is stocked every other day, according to hatchery officials. The Cumberland River is stocked at least one day a month, and possibly more depending on the truck availability.
