Best Western hotel in Somerset catches fire

Firefighters in nearby Somerset worked their second major structure fire in the past six days as they battled a blaze at the Best Western hotel near Lowe’s earlier this week.

Around 5:30 p.m. eastern time on Wednesday, firefighters responded to the hotel at 103 Jefferson Drive. Multiple units responded to the fire that appeared to be most prominent on the west side of the roof, according to reports. Because the fire began in the attic, the sprinkler system in the building did not activate automatically, fire officials said.

The Commonwealth Journal in Somerset said the multi-story hotel structure fire appeared to be contained around 6:30 p.m. that evening. The cause of the fire has not yet been released, no injuries were reported, and the investigation continues.
