Russell County Judge Executive Randy Marcum said he would like to see Russell County move to the eastern time zone.
Marcum said Russell County fits most of the criteria to make the switch. That includes which areas people in the county travel to for work, medical services and airports, as well as where most of the commerce and supplies come from.
The petition has to be made at the federal level to the U.S. Transportation Cabinet Secretary and the process typically takes more than a year if approved.
