The Russell County Fiscal Court met in special session Monday morning.
The court approved the first reading of the new occupational tax ordinance, which increases the tax from three-quarters of a percent to one percent.
The new ordinance also included language to increase the cap on the tax to $4,000 and eliminate the sunset clause.
A second reading is expected at the regular meeting on March 13.
