Voter registration drops in Russell County, rises statewide

New data from the Kentucky Board of Elections shows voter registration in Russell County has dropped over the past month.

In the October report, Russell County had 14,528 registered voters. In November, that dropped to 14,460, a decrease of 68 voters.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams said statewide voter registration continues to rise.

During the month of November, Kentucky saw 11,078 new voters register, for a net gain of 4,004. The secretary of state said more than 7,000 voters were removed due to death, felony convictions, moving out of state, and other reasons.

Statewide, the majority of voters are registered as Republicans at 45.5 percent with Democrats making up 44.6 percent of Kentucky voters. Independents and other affiliations make up 9.9 percent.
