Blood drive Thursday as supply reaches critically low level

With the monthly Russell County Community Blood Drive on Thursday, the Kentucky Blood Center is asking for blood donors after the local supply has reached critically low levels in recent weeks.

The local drive takes place tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the South Kentucky RECC Community Room at 2405 N. Main Street in Jamestown.

Donors will be entered to win one of three $100 gift cards sponsored by First National Bank, Helm, Shearer, and Wilson Attorneys at Law, and Bank of Jamestown. All donors will also receive a Kentucky Blood Center hoodie, while supplies last.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment, visit

The nonprofit organization has seen low donor turnout this month due to the increase of flu, RSV and COVID-19 cases as well as last week’s winter storm.

All of the blood donated supports hospitals around the state.
