Lakers drop district game to Warren Central

The Russell County Laker football team fell to district foe Warren Central 36-9 at Dragon Stadium in Bowling Green this past Friday night.

It was the Dragon’s first home victory since beating Warren East on Oct. 16, 2015 and also the first time the Dragons won back-to-back games since winning three straight in September of 2014.

Russell County’s only touchdown came on a 15-play, 99-yard drive that ended with a 2-yard rush from quarterback Owen Loy. Russell County rushed for 231 yards, but were held to just 42 yards through the air. The Dragons finished with 283 yards rushing.

The Lakers return to action at 7 p.m. Friday as they are on the road to play another district foe, the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats.
