Laker football in action tonight; soccer teams eye district crown; volleyball wins again; RCMS basketball teams in action

The Lady Laker Volleyball team continued their impressive winning streak as they went on the road and swept Casey County in freshman, junior varsity and varsity matchups. The Lady Laker freshmen won 21-1, 21-10, the JV won 21-10, 21-5, and the varsity won their match 25-13, 25-10. Russell County will play again tonight at Lafayette High School in Lexington in the Halloween Smash event.

The Laker boys Soccer team defeated Allen County-Scottsville on the road Thursday night by a score of 1-0 with the winning goal scored by Chance Betts-Jimenez. Russell County now plays Monroe County at the high school soccer field at noon on Saturday in the 16th district tournament.

The Lady Laker Soccer team fell at home to Green County 2-1 on Thursday night with Madison Weisbrodt scoring the lone Lady Laker goal. The JV Lady Lakers defeated Green County 4-1 with Addison Coffey scoring three goals and Madison Bennett scoring one goal. Russell County now turns its sights to the 16th district tournament on Saturday when they play the Monroe County-Clinton County winner at 2 p.m. at the high school soccer field.

In Russell County Middle School Girls Basketball action Thursday, the Lady Lakers defeated Green County in the 6th grade game 18 to 7 with Olivia Stephens scoring 6 points. In the 7th grade game it was the Lady Lakers falling 31 to 28. Addy Abrell led the way with 19 points. In the 8th grade game it was the Lady Lakers on top of Green County 45 to 12. Carigann Carpenter scored 14 points and Addy Abrell added 10 points. It was also 8th grade night for the Lady Lakers.

Tonight, the 1-5 Russell County Laker football team is back on the road in another district matchup, this time with the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats, who come into the game sporting a 4-2 record. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and you can hear all the action on Laker Country 104.9 with pregame getting underway at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
