Della “Doris” Gosser Brown, age 98, Russell County Native

Della “Doris” Gosser Brown passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at Glen Ridge Health Campus in Louisville, Kentucky on September 23, 2022.

She was born July 11, 1924 in the Irvin Store community of Russell County to Grover Cleveland and Della Meece Gosser, who
both preceded her in death.

She was married to Lansing Woodrow Brown in 1942, who also preceded her in death. Four children were born to their union.
She spent her early married years as a farmwife and homemaker. Later, she worked at Russell Sportswear, then was the head cook of Russell Springs Elementary School for eight years. At the age of 65, she retired from Lake Cumberland State Park where she had been the Country Store manager for over twenty years. During all these years, and up until the last decade of her
life, she enjoyed working and gardening on the family farm.

After retirement she pursued her life-long dream of getting a high school diploma, by earning her GED. In retirement she joined the Lake Cumberland Hospice volunteer organization, and she was a member of the Russell County Hospital Auxiliary where she logged a record for the number of volunteer hours served. She was a very active member of Fairview Baptist Church.
She had an immense heart for missions and supported several organizations and individuals. She was a member of the Lake Cumberland Aging Council and Homemakers. She loved to read, quilt, and crochet in her spare time. She was also a faithful poll worker for decades.
Perhaps her greatest joy was having the opportunity to babysit and show affection to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, one son, three sons-in law, and one daughter-in-law: Anita (Jesse) Tucker of Russell Springs; Teresa (Bernie) Bricker of Russell Springs; Kevin (Paula) Brown of Louisville; and son-in-law Ronald Davidson of Clearwater, Florida.

She is also survived by seven grandsons: Jonathan Davidson, Shayne (Amy) Coe, Jason Hadley, Nicholas Hadley, Matthew Brown, David Brown, Andrew Brown and two great-grandchildren – Danica and Ethan Coe. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends – including the new friends she met at the Glen Ridge Health Campus in Louisville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Loretta Davidson and two grandsons – Chad Davidson and Joel Davidson. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters: Arno Gosser, Finis Gosser, GC Gosser, Jacob Gosser, Wallace Gosser, Radia Foley, Gholsie Bennett, Sylvia Tiller, and Maynie Tucker.

Visitation will be Monday, September 26, 2022 from 5-8pm CST at Wilson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10am CST, also at Wilson Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Eaton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Baptist Cemetery, Russell Springs.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Shayne Coe, Jason Hadley, Nicholas Hadley, Matthew Brown, David Brown and Andrew Brown.

Arrangements for Della Doris Brown are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice of Russell County and/or the Fairview Cemetery Fund are welcome.
