Record number of overdoses in Kentucky last year

A record number of Kentuckians died from drug overdoses last year in Kentucky, according to an annual report from the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy.

According to the report, 2,250 Kentuckians died of drug overdoses, a 14.5% increase from the 1,964 deaths in 2020, previously the highest year on record.

In Russell County, less than five overdose deaths were reported in 2021.

In neighboring Casey, Clinton, Cumberland and Wayne counties, less than five overdose deaths were also reported.

In neighboring Pulaski County, 34 overdose deaths were also reported.

In Adair County, nine overdose deaths were reported in 2021.
