The unemployment rate in Russell County dropped 0.6 percent from May 2021 to May 2022, according to new data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
Russell County’s unemployment rate last month was 4.5 percent, compared to 5.1 percent the year prior.
Neighboring Cumberland County was tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.6 percent, tied with Woodford County.
Even with the decrease, Russell County has the highest unemployment rate of neighboring counties, aside from Wayne County which is at 4.6 percent.
Unemployment rates rose in nine counties, fell in 107, and stayed the same in four counties during that time span.
