Drowning on Tuesday in nearby Green River Lake

A person drowned in Green River Lake in nearby Taylor County on Tuesday evening, according to Campbellsville Fire & Rescue.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to a report of a person drowning near Wilson Creek on Green River Lake shortly before 5:30 p.m. eastern time on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, firefighters obtained a point last scene and a public safety diver and backup public safety diver were deployed to that area and conducted a search. A Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officer deployed a side scan sonar and was able to guide divers to the victim approximately 75 feet from the bank.

The victim was pronounced dead by the Taylor County Coroner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation and the identity of the victim has not yet been released by officials.

Numerous Taylor County first responders, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers responded to the scene.
