2 Russell Springs residents arrested in Columbia for leaving baby in vehicle

Two Russell Springs residents were arrested Monday evening in neighboring Adair County on first degree wanton endangerment charges for leaving a baby inside a vehicle while going into a store, according to the Columbia Police Department.

David Weiand, 25, and Victoria Rogers, 20, were both taken into custody on the charges and lodged in the Adair Regional Jail. Social Services was notified, and the baby was placed in the care of relatives.

The Columbia Police Department responded to Tractor Supply on Jamestown Street in Columbia Monday evening after a report of an infant being left unattended in a parked vehicle.

When officers arrived they observed the female baby alone inside the vehicle. Weiand and Rogers were inside Tractor Supply and security camera footage showed the baby was left alone in the vehicle for approximately seven minutes before officers arrived on scene, according to police.

Sgt. Evan Burton was the arresting officer. He was assisted at the scene by Officer Josh Durbin.
