Hospital board approves nurse incentive pay for additional two weeks

The Russell County Hospital Board of Directors approved a new nurse pay incentive program aimed at helping address the hospital’s nursing shortage.

The board approved a plan, which was endorsed by incoming CEO Scott Thompson, that provides nurses who pick up an extra emergency room shift time-and-a-half pay, along with an additional bonus of $50, $100, or $200 depending on the length of the shift.

The board said Thompson, who officially takes over May 1, put together the plan based on programs instituted by other area hospitals. The new pay incentive will run from May 1-15 as the current pay incentive expires at the end of the month.
