Helm dropping out of Judge Executive race

The list of candidates seeking the office of Russell County Judge Executive just got a little shorter.

Republican candidate Landon Helm announced on social media over the weekend that he is removing himself from the race. Although his name will remain on the ballot, Helm said he is ceasing campaigning for election.

“I hope our community understands that I’m not giving up or quitting on them,” Helm said in the post. “I just want to do what is right/best for our county.”

Helm said he made the decision after talking with another candidate in the race, Randy Marcum, whom he said he is supporting in the upcoming primary election.

“Many of you also know that I am a man of my word and always try and do what is right,” Helm said. “I have always said that if someone is more qualified and capable to move our county forward in the right direction for not only a few individuals but the majority of Russell Countians that I would pull out of this election for Russell County Judge Executive.”

Primary Election Day in Russell County is less than two months away with Election Day scheduled for May 17.
